Tamm-Horsfall Urinary Glycoprotein (THP)
Tamm-Horsfall protein (THP), also known as uromodulin, is the most abundant protein present in the urine of healthy subjects and has been shown to decrease in individuals with kidney stones. It is secreted by the thick ascending limb of the Loop of Henley. It is a monomeric glycoprotein of ~ 85 kDa with ~30% carbohydrate moiety that is heavily glycosylated. THP may act as a constitutive inhibitor of calcium crystallization in renal fluids.
