Austin, Texas, February, 2007 — Rules-Based Medicine, Inc. (RBM), the leading multiplexed biomarker testing laboratory for the life sciences industry, announced today that it has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant by the United States Department of Defense entitled “Rapid Assessment of Individual Soldier Operational Readiness.”

In partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, Livermore, Calif., RBM will apply its Multi-Analyte Profiling (MAP) approach for determining biomarker patterns indicative of operational readiness for members of the armed forces. The two-year project, funded for $750,000, will test plasma samples collected from armed forces personnel as they recover from physical stress in their training environments. The awarding of the Phase II STTR grant follows RBM’s successful completion of a previous project also conducted in conjunction with Lawrence Livermore National Labs funded by a $100,000 Phase I grant.

“We anticipate that the results of this Phase II project will lead to the development of a powerful assessment tool further validating the broad applicability of RBM’s Multi-Analyte Profiling approach,” said Craig Benson, President and CEO of Rules-Based Medicine.
