A recent article featuring Myriad RBM’s services was published in PLoS ONE by a group of researchers investigating the differences in biomarker profiles between men and women. The group measured 174 proteins across nine independent groups, with 196 males and 196 females. As would be expected, clusters of molecules with distinct biological roles, such as immune function and hormone regulation, were discovered that distinguished the two sexes. Interestingly, a subgroup of the study with Asperger’s syndrome also showed sexually dimorphic expression of biomarkers that were different from the control groups. The researchers hope that this data will serve as a basis to consider for medical conditions that vary by sex.
