Dr. Ivan O Rosas, a faculty member in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Director of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Program at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute has published several recent papers investigating lung diseases, including a 2011 paper in the New England Journal of Medicine on emphysema. Most recently, Dr. Rosas co-authored a paper discussing the role non-invasive biomarkers are playing in smoking-related parenchymal lung diseases such as COPD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Based on this research, there is hope that these biomarkers could be used in the future to detect subclinical lung disease. Translational studies will be completed later this year in collaboration with Myriad-RBM’s proprietary platform technology and biomarker team.
