This recent paper in the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Journal of the American Heart Association describes an interesting prospective study of 839 coronary heart disease (CHD)-free individuals who were followed for about 10 years with blood based biomarker testing. As the mean age at the beginning of the study was 73 years, 99 individuals developed CHD over the 10 year period. Multiplexed immunoassays for 51 inflammatory biomarkers indicated that ENRAGE (extracellular newly identified receptor for advanced glycation end-products binding protein) was most strongly associated with risk for developing CHD.
