A new study published in the Journal of American Pathology underscores the importance of understanding the role that a biomarker target plays in both healthy and diseased physiology. Researchers found that Trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) , normally a protein that helps maintain breast epithelieum, can act to increase the invasiveness of tumors and was associated with higher levels of metastasis. TFF3 also outperformed other tumor markers in the study for predicting lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis.
