Although the research represents only initial findings, the scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have found a panel of biomarkers which can better distinguish true positives from benign lumps. The researchers had success by recognizing that breast cancer as a whole is not a single disease but rather a collection of different subtypes, each with potentially different signatures.
