Folate receptor gamma (FOLR3)
Folate receptors bind folate and its derivatives and mediates delivery of tetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells for DNA and RNA synthesis. There are three membrane-bound isoforms of folate (a, ?, and gamma), and each has its own tissue-specific distribution. The a and ? isoforms are glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored, whereas the gamma isoform is a soluble protein con?stitutively secreted by lymphoid cells and various carcinomas, with high level in ovarian carcinomas. Serum folate receptor gamma is a potential biomarker for ovarian cancer and hematopoietic malignancies.
