Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinases 3 (TIMP-3)

TIMP 3 is a member of a group of proteins that inhibit matrix metalloproteinases and thereby prevent the degradation of the extracellular matrix. TIMP 3 has a high affinity for binding the extracellular matrix. An over expression of TIMP 3 may inhibit cancer cells and tumors in certain types of cancer, including prostate cancer.
