Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1)

Paraoxanases break down organophosphates ( PON1, PON2, and PON3). PON1 is produced in the liver and increases with inflammation. PON2 is a ubiquitous intracellular protein. PON3 is very similar to PON1, however is unaffected by inflammatory changes. PON1 and PON3 both prevent the formation of oxidized LDL, which in turn lowers the risk of coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis due to the reduction of plaque buildup.
