Interleukin-31 (IL-31)
IL-31 is an important cytokine regulator of Th2 responses that is expressed predominantly by CD4+ T cells and mast cells. It activates STAT signaling through the IL-31 heterodimeric receptor composed of IL31RA and OSMR present on activated monocytes and epithelial cells. IL-31 is an important factor in skin inflammation, is a key trigger of atopic dermatitis and has been linked to various maladies including cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, pruritus, and allergic rhinitis.
