Cadherin-13 (T-cad)

Cadherin-13 (T-cad) is a unique member of the cadherin superfamily because it lacks the transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains and is anchored to the cells membrane through the GPI anchor. The distribution of T-cad in the cell membrane is restricted to lipid rafts where it co-localizes with signal-transducing molecules, suggesting T-cad acts in intracellular signaling rather than adhesion. LDL and high-molecular weight (HMW) complexes of adiponectin are known ligands. T-cad loss in tumor cells is associated with tumor malignancy, invasiveness, and metastasis.
