Lipocalin-1 (LCN1)

Lipocalin-1 (LCN1) is a transport protein that belongs to the lipocalin/calycin superfamily. Lipocalins bind a variety of lipophilic ligands and are characterized by an 8-stranded beta-barrel structure. LCN1 is mainly expressed in lachrymal, salivary, and secretory glands of the tracheobronchial tract. It is also expressed in the prostate and sweat glands. LCN1 is believed to serve a protective function by scavenging potentially harmful molecules.
