Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER-2)

Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER-2, Neu) activates a number of signaling pathways including MAPK, phospholipase C gamma, and protein kinase C. HER-2 is a member of a family of receptors that promote cell proliferation and oppose apoptosis. It has been shown to play an important role in the progression of specific, aggressive types of breast cancer and now serves as a biomarker and therapeutic target.
