Nerve Growth Factor beta (NGF-beta)

Nerve Growth Factor beta (NGF-beta, NGF-?) is important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. Nerve Growth Factor is a polypeptide composed by 3 types of subunits (alpha, beta and gamma) that specifically interact to form a 7S, 130 kDa molecular weight complex. The beta-NGF subunit is a secreted protein that forms a homodimer before being incorporated into the NGF complex. NGF-beta is an extracellular ligand for the NTRK1 and NGFR receptors and activates cellular signaling cascades through a receptor tyrosine kinase to regulate neuronal proliferation, differentiation, and survival.
