Leptin (Leptin)
Leptin is a protein hormone produced predominantly in the adipocytes and plays an important role in the regulation of body weight through the hypothalamic centers for hunger, body temperature, and energy expenditure. Increased leptin levels are seen in obese individuals and leptin levels have been shown to change under certain endocrine conditions. Its role in metabolism, insulin sensitivity, as a therapeutic modality for weight loss, and involvement in endocrine function is under investigation.
