Fetuin-A (Fetuin-A)
Fetuin A or AHSG (Alpha 2- Heremans Schmid Glycoprotein) is an abundant plasma protein and a member of the cystatin superfamily of protease inhibitors. It is expressed by hepatocytes and monocytes/macrophages. Fetuin A is a potent inhibitor of calcification with increased levels associated with atherosclerosis calcification. It plays a role in insulin resistance with increased levels seen in type II diabetics. Fetuin A also plays a role in macrophage inhibition and inflammation. Blood levels of Fetuin A are decreased during injury, infection, and inflammation.
