AXL Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (AXL)
AXL Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (AXL; Ufo; Ark) is a soluble receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) that exists as a transmembrane protein. This RTK is involved in hematopoiesis, embryonic development, tumorigenesis, angiogenesis and regulation of testicular function. In addition, human Axl is known to bind the vitamin K-dependent protein growth arrest specific gene 6 (Gas6). Binding of Gas6 induces receptor autophosphorylation and downstream signaling pathways that can lead to cell proliferation, migration, or the prevention of apoptosis. Axl is expressed in most cell lines and adult tissues but is found at highest levels in heart and skeletal muscle.
